Winner of Albert
P. Weisman Award!
The Albert P. Weisman Memorial Scholarship Fund
was established in 1974 to encourage Columbia College students to
complete projects in all fields of communications. The fund is named
after the late Al Weisman, a trustee of Columbia College and one
of Chicago's best-known and respected communicators. He was a journalist,
publicist, teacher and mentor to many young people. The Fund is
intended to perpetuate his commitment to nurturing interest in all
aspects of communication.
Professional communicators from Chicago Communications
evaluate all projects. Each project is considered in terms of creativity,
potential contribution to its field of communications, and how it
may further the applicant's scholastic and professional development.
The Weisman Scholarship judges consider project applications and
interview information based on many different criteria. The following
are of note: 1) thoroughness of application 2) sense of vision and
creativity 3) possibility of scholastic and professional growth
for the applicant and 4) practicality and accuracy of timetable
and budget estimations.
Bloom's "Global Rock!" received
the Albert P. Weisman Award in 1998/1999. The album was completed
in 1999, mastered for distribution in 2002, and released on DWMDWM
of 2003.
